Hampstead Central School serves approximately 500 students in preschool through grade four from the Hampstead and East Hampstead communities. Our school has received many honors including 20 consecutive Blue Ribbon awards for parent involvement and many Gold Circle awards for community partnerships. HCS was named the New Hampshire Elementary School of Excellence at the 2007 Edies. Our students benefit from extensive support from parents and the community.
Our preschool program offers three different morning sessions and one afternoon session for our three and four year old population of students. This year, we are offering two morning and two afternoon kindergarten sessions. We are also offering one full day kindergarten class this year as a pilot program. For the 2011-12 school year, we will have five first grade, six second grade, five third grade, and four fourth grade classrooms. We do offer at least one looping classroom at each grade level. A looping classroom is where the students and the teacher stay together for two school years.
Hampstead Central School is proud to have a veteran teaching staff, with most of our teachers holding advanced degrees. Ongoing professional development is an integral part of our work. Our staff strives to integrate critical and creative thinking skills, technology, and the arts into the core subject areas. Students participate in a range of Unified Arts classes, including art, music, physical education, guidance, and technology lab. The school houses an extensive book collection and an up to date media center. All staff members are trained in the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program as one component of our efforts to create a safe and caring school environment. Extensive academic supports are available for students who require additional support to access the curriculum. Our Ventures program is designed to enhance learning experiences and to challenge children to develop advanced talents and abilities appropriately. We strive to help all children reach their full potential.
